Description

A visitor landing on a post or a wiki article may ask "who is behind this site?", and they really won't have a clue at all. This is because there are no "by lines" or other identifying information on those items.

The only branding on the new part of the site is a tiny monochromatic logo in the top-right next to the site name. The site name itself, wincent.dev, doesn't really mean much.

Pages belonging to the old parts of the site probably had more branding:

  • The old blog: https://wincent.dev/a/about/wincent/weblog/
  • Product listing: https://wincent.dev/a/products/
  • etc

By the time all of the old parts of the site have been migrated over, I think a fair bit of work needs to be done on branding and identity. That really means two things:

  1. A visitor landing on any given page should be able to answer the questions, "Who made this page?"
  2. All pages on the site should have a distinctive look and feel; the current black-and-white scheme is certainly subdued and professional, but it's soulless

I implemented a new navigation bar yesterday that goes some way to addressing the "soullessness" by adding some more attractive styling, moving the logo and company name back to the top left where it looks a little more obvious, and adding back the "Software for your Mac" slogan which appears on the old site.

Coming soon will be adding an "about" page to the navbar, I think.

Added the "about" page last night, and today added "by lines" to blog posts ("index" and "show" views), wiki articles ("show" view), and tweets ("show" view).

These changes are going to be included in the next deployment, so marking this one as closed.
