Bug #1372: Exported source archive doesn't include submodules

Description

As part of the release process I've been doing:

$ git archive 2.0 | gzip > wincent-strings-util-2.0-src.tar.gz

But that ends up including just an empty subdirectory for the buildtools submodule, which isn't very helpful. So will need to look into including that in the archive automatically.

May have to do it as a two-step process: first create the super-project archive and then add the contents of the submodule manually.
