Description

Curious as to why I wasn't showing any activity on last.fm, I enabled logging and found the following:

Playing Artist: "New Order" Name: "Subculture" Album: "Substance" 2007-01-13 17:23:28.010 Synergy[28801] Audioscrobbler: Received notification from iTunes 2007-01-13 17:23:28.010 Synergy[28801] Audioscrobbler: Current track cannot be submitted because it is not a regular file 2007-01-13 17:23:28.010 Synergy[28801] Audioscrobbler: Cancelling previously existing submission timer, if any

However, the last.fm player is perfectly happy to submit the track, even though it's "not a regular file". If it's possible to distinguish DAAP and other streams, it would be good to match the official client's behaviour.

Thanks for submitting the feature request, Paul. Two things:

    (1) Please look at this post:

    https://wincent.dev/a/support/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1160&page=1#Post1161

It discusses the protocol and whether or not "non-regular" tracks may be submitted.

    (2) Please look at this post:

It has a link to a tool that you can use to collect information on how these tracks are identified by iTunes. That information is necessary to work out how to identify "DAAP" tracks. (Incidentally, I don't know what DAAP is and haven't ever heard of it before; will look it up.)

Sorry, DAAP is protocol underlying iTunes shared libraries. I shouldn't use the jargon. Updated the description to make it easier to find.

Having looked at the description, I agree that streams shouldn't be submitted, but here I'm taking as my example the behaviour of the client (which also submits iPod tracks, as noted). However, neither iPod nor "shared" tracks have a Location field, so I'll have a look at the scripting dictionary to see if there's a better way to identify the kind.

I don't yet run 10.4, but I'll see if I can find the same notifications itnl logs as well.

Thanks for adding the additional details, Paul.

If the information can be pried out of the notifications in some way, despite the missing "location" field, that would be great because it will be more efficient. Otherwise, will have to fall back to Apple Events or AppleScript.

For reference, submitting tracks played on the iPod is feature request #517.
