Last time I wrote a non-trivial preferences window (ie. one with many panes) I designed it along the lines of the System Preferences panel. Revisiting the topic, this time I'm going to just stick the panes in the tool bar, like pretty much every other application does (including Apple apps like Safari and Mail).
